I graduated from Kendall College of Art and Design in 1987 with a BFA in Illustration. After a few years in the commercial art field, I decided to move back to my hometown of Charlevoix, Michigan to pursue a career as a watercolor artist. The past eight years have been spent entering shows, competitions and studying with renowned watercolor artists in the United States and Europe. My work has been accepted into the Michigan Watercolor Society annual exhibition in 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2005; the Hilton Head National Juried Show in 2000; and in the Virginia McCune annual juried show for three straight years, with a second place award in 1998 and an honorable mention award in 2000. I am also proud to have exhibited at the prestigious Charlevoix Waterfront Art Fair.
My approach to painting is a quest to take ordinary subject matter and render it memorable. My imagery is chosen usually for light and shadow - I enjoy the way sunlight falls across architecture, reflects in unexpected areas and creates wonderfully shaped shadows. Watercolor, for me, portrays this luminosity in the most delicate and surprising way.
